This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Energy Storage and Power Laboratory Section and will be responsible for technical support to ESA projects as well as preparing, monitoring and guiding work on technology developments in the field of energy storage for space applications. The main tasks of the post will include, in particular providing specialist support to ESA spacecraft programmes and other European projects, if required at all development stages from definition studies to inflight data analysis, on all aspects of energy storage this encompasses the performance of analyses, tradeoffs and simulations, as required, in order to assess energy storage assembly performance and interactions with the rest of the system providing independent, technical assessment to both projectlevel and Agencylevel system and subsystem reviews defining, managing and evaluating RD activities with European industry and with academic networks defining, managing and analysing tests carried out in the European Space Battery Test Centre at ESTEC supporting the energy storage technology dossier and roadmap preparation and supporting their harmonisation with European industry, laboratories and national agencies. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrochemistry or aerospace engineering and a sound knowledge of battery technology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in batteries for space applications battery modelling industrial battery design and development electronics battery mechanical and thermal design. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 06 May 2014.
