EDMONTON, ALTA: August 8, 2013 -- Oil glissens off the water as booms line this marsh trying to contain the bitumen emulsion as Canadian Natural Resources Limited workers continue cleaning up the bitumen on this marsh after it seeped up through a fissure under the water near their Primrose oil sand projects sites north of Cold Lake, August 8, 2013. A total of four sites have this seepage occuring and to date 7300 barrels have been collected from 13.5 hectares.

The Alberta Energy Regulator says close to 60,000 litres of crude oil have spilled into muskeg in the province's north. An incident report by the regulator states that a mechanical failure was reported Thursday at a Canadian Natural Resources Limited pipeline approximately 27 kilometres north of Red Earth Creek.

Oilsands firms not at fault in deaths of 196 waterfowl in northeast Alberta

The Alberta Energy Regulator says three oilsands corporations did nothing wrong when 196 birds died after landing in wastewater tailings ponds earlier this month. The regulator says Canadian Natural Resources Limited , Suncor Energy Inc. and Syncrude followed the rules that require them to use devices to scare waterfowl away from the ponds.
