A fire in an electrical substation at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday has knocked out power to the Hillsboro area. According to American Electric Power, about 8,000 customers were affected by the outage.

Pent-up demand drove consumers into auto dealerships in May. Auto sales were strong and on pace to having its best year in nearly a decade, fueled by demand for pickup trucks and sport utilities. Easier credit has played a role in boosting auto sales for a while, but extended loan payment terms have lessened the sting from higher priced vehicles, making financing more affordable.

US finds first case of lethal bird flu in commercial chicken flock

A flock of 200,000 hens in Wisconsin is the first commercial U.S. chicken operation to become infected with a lethal strain of bird flu, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said, widening the impact of a virus that has killed hundreds of thousands of turkeys this year. The chickens were at an egg-laying facility in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, between Madison and Milwaukee, and represented the state's first case of the H5N2 flu, according to the Agriculture Department.

Bird flu hits fourth turkey flock in Minnesota: USDA

A virulent strain of avian flu has spread for the first time to poultry in South Dakota and infected a fourth turkey flock in Minnesota, the nation's top turkey producer, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Thursday. The latest infections of H5N2 flu show the virus, which can kill almost an entire poultry flock in 48 hours, continues to be a risk to U.S. trade.
