Google to build Equiano subsea cable from Portugal to South Africa

(Telecompaper) The cable will have branching units along the way that can be used to extend connectivity to additional African countries. The first branch is expected to land in Nigeria. The Equiano cable is based on space-division multiplexing (SDM) technology. It will offer approximately 20 times more network capacity than the last cable built to serve this region.

Airtel Africa sets price range for IPO in London

(Telecompaper) Airtel Africa has set a price range of GBP 0.80 to GBP 1.00 per share for its initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange. Airtel said this implies a market capitalisation of GBP 3.01 billion to GBP 3.62 billion, excluding an over-allotment option. It said the IPO will see the company float 595.2 million to 744.0 million new shares, raising a total of GBP 595 million, including the over-allotment option.
Airtel Africa launches IPO in London, seeks to raise USD 750 mln

(Telecompaper) Airtel announced that its unit Airtel Africa plans to raise gross proceeds of USD 750 million through its listing on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. In a statement, the operator confirmed it was going ahead with the listing and would freely float at least 25 percent of shares in Airtel Africa, with a further 15 percent of shares made available under an overallotment option. Airtel Africa is also considering a listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
