American Eagle reports profit increase in fourth quarter

Shares of American Eagle Outfitters rose Wednesday, as investors waited for the South Side teen clothing retailer's final numbers on the important holiday quarter. Just after the markets closed, American Eagle reported net income of $81.7 million, or 42 cents per share, vs. $61.6 million, or 32 cents per share, during the same period a year earlier.

Qantas reports half-year profit trebled to $497 million

Qantas Airways Ltd. on Tuesday reported that its latest half-year profit had more than trebled to a record 688 million Australian dollars on the back of low fuel prices and a falling Australian dollar. The Australian airline's net profit for the six months through December was up 239 percent on AU$203 million for the previous corresponding half year, boosted by the AU$448 million saved through hedging on lower fuel prices.

Hormel Foods Reports Higher Profit, Lifts Guidance

Hormel Foods Corp. boosted its guidance for the year as profit in the most recent quarter shot up 37% on strength from its refrigerated foods, grocery products and specialty foods segments, as well as "positive momentum" at Jennie-O Turkey Store. Shares of Hormel, which have added 22% over the past three months, jumped 5.4% to $43.73 in premarket trading.
