Ericsson unveils new 5G hardware and software ahead of MWC Americas

(Telecompaper) Ericsson has announced the forthcoming launch of a range of new additions to its 5G hardware and software portfolio, including new radio access network (RAN) compute architecture, spectrum sharing between 4G and 5G bands and street macro transport technology. The new RAN Compute portfolio is designed to enable easier distribution of RAN functions including beamforming and radio control, said the company. It includes all the current basebands in addition to four new RAN Compute products that provide up to three times the capacity of current basebands.

Liberty Global expands Ericsson managed services contract to more countries

(Telecompaper) Ericsson and Liberty Global have expanded their partnership in Europe, building on their existing managed services contract for mobile networks and fixed field services in Poland, Hungary and Austria. The extended deal includes operations consolidation and transfer of services functions from Liberty Global locations in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland and Germany.

Intel, Ericsson complete first 5G data call over 39 GHz band

(Telecompaper) Intel and Ericsson announced the completion of the first 5G-NR compliant live data call over the 39 GHz band in a lab-based trial conducted in Kista (Sweden) and Santa Clara (California). The pilot was carried out in July using Intel's RF mm-Wave chip with Ericsson Radio System commercial equipment, including the 5G NR radio AIR 5331, baseband and Intel 5G Mobile Trial Platform. "This live 5G demonstration on the 39 GHz band signifies how close 5G commercial services are to reality in North America," said Asha Keddy, vice president Next Generation and Standards at Intel, adding that the call is an important step in ensuring the company's commercial platforms are field ready for deployment in 2019.
