Long Island Rail Road service is temporarily suspended in both directions between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma after an eastbound train hit a car that was on the tracks Saturday night, officials said. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman said the car stopped on the tracks on Little East Neck Road in Wyandanch, just east of the Pinelawn station, for an unknown reason.

The city is in talks with the MTA to lower fare prices for commuters who use the Metro-North Railroad. The city and Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials are in talks to roll back prices for commuters who use the rail lines within the five boroughs, Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg told the City Council Thursday.

A homeless man was crossing the railroad tracks with friends in Freeport when he collapsed Wednesday and never regained consciousness, MTA officials said. Yoni Marcos, 35, was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was pronounced dead, said Salvatore Arena, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Elmhurst LIRR Station Could Reopen Under New MTA Budget

A long-shuttered Long Island Rail Road station along Broadway could reopen now that the city and state have agreed to fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's five-year capital plan. Politicians have pushed for the MTA to reopen the stop - which was discontinued back in 1985 due to low ridership - amid a surge in the neighborhood's population in the past three decades.
