Dan DiMicco is the former CEO of Nucor, a Charlotte steel company, and will release his book on manufacturing March 3. Former Nucor CEO and chairman emeritus Dan DiMicco, an outspoken supporter of U.S. manufacturing even in retirement, will release his book "American Made" on March 3. DiMicco's message in the book is that manufacturing is alive and well and shouldn't be ignored for its ability to create well-paying jobs. Investment in manufacturing, DiMicco has said, will enable the U.S. to rebuild its crumbling infrastructure, become energy independent and fix the trade imbalance.

Forget the idea that the U.S. economy is chugging along in a respectable recovery after the Great Recession, says Dan DiMicco , former CEO of steel manufacturer Nucor Corp. And the 5.9 percent unemployment rate the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported for September? Forget that, too, he says. The real unemployment rate is the 16.1 percent, which includes those working part time but who would rather be working full time.
