Bandwidth to acquire Voxbone for EUR 446 million

(Telecompaper) Bandwidth announced a definitive agreement to acquire Voxbone, the international enterprise cloud communications specialist, for an enterprise value of EUR 446 million. Belgium-based Voxbone has been majority-owned by Vitruvian Partners since 2015. Through this combination, Bandwidth aims to play a bigger role in enterprise cloud communications, enabling companies around the world to develop, launch and scale applications and customer experiences using rich voice and text.

Netflix cuts bandwidth 25% in Europe, offers same for ISPs elsewhere

(Telecompaper) Netflix said it's received requests from some ISPs in Latin America to reduce its bandwidth, in order to free up network capacity during the coronavirus crisis. As a result, it's started offering telecom operators worldwide a 25 percent cut in bandwidth from its services, as the company is already deploying in Europe.

Facebook, Amazon, Disney to help conserve bandwidth in Europe

(Telecompaper) Facebook has said it will also reduce video streaming quality on its platform and on Instagram in Europe, in the wake of similar action by Netflix and YouTube, Reuters reported. The move comes after European Commissioner Thierry Breton asked platforms to switch to SD from HD feeds, in order to conserve bandwidth for vital sectors and people working at home during the coronavirus outbreak. Amazon and Disney have also said they will downgrade their video quality.

EU commissioner talks to Netflix on switch to SD video to conserve bandwidth

(Telecompaper) EU Commissioner Thierry Breton said he spoke to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings on ways to ensure sufficient internet capacity while more people are working at home during the coronavirus crisis. On Twitter, Breton launched the hashtag #SwitchtoStandard to encourage people to use SD rather than HD video in order to conserve bandwidth.
