Pumped with Millennia® eV™, Matisse® tunable, single-frequency laser offers over 6.5 W of output, 60 kHz external linewidth, and near diffraction-limited TEM00 beam quality. Also available, Solstice® single-box ultrafast amplifier produces less than 50 fs pulses in kHz repetition rate regime and doubles peak power at greater than 70 GW. XP cavity provides optimal beam quality for driving optical parameter amplifier (OPA) systems with M2 less than 1.3. Optogenetics: Controlling and eradicating epilepsy with lasers
2013-01-24 16:54:32| Extremetech
Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common form of seizure activity in humans. It tends to arise predictably in discrete regions on the extreme poles of either side of the brain. The ability to detect signs that a seizure is about to occur, and short-circuit any undesirable neuronal activity with fiber-delivered laser light is arguably the advanced technology we can imagine for our day. It is here -- at least for genetically enhanced Mus musculus, the ordinary house mouse.

NASA sends Mona Lisa to the moon with lasers
2013-01-18 21:11:21| CNET News.com
In a show of planetary-scale laser communication, Leonardo's digitized lady gets beamed nearly 240,000 miles to a lunar satellite. [Read more]
NASA uploads the Mona Lisa to the Moon using lasers
2013-01-18 18:48:02| Extremetech
The United States may not be sending people to the Moon for a while, but as NASA demonstrated by sending the Mona Lisa to the Moon via lasers, that doesn't mean they won't be sending anything.
