The Key Person will be part of the HSIRL2 team. The Key Person shall especially contribute to the specifications documentation and prototyping of the IASING principal components referred to as L1D in EPSSG context and L2 products generation functions and to the support of the operational software implementation during the initial development phase of the Payload Data Acquisition and Processing. Support to the preparation and completion of the commissioning of IASIMetopC is also expected. PROFILE The Key Person shall have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics, astrophysics, meteorology or remote sensing. The Key Person shall have at least three years of experience in the field of scientific computing. Specifically, the Key Person shall have experience and skills in Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Documentation of complex scientific software Generation and documentation of test data and test procedures Handling and processing of big amounts of data NetCDF format and using associated libraries Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Concurrent SW development in a team and Software tools for revision control Very good skills in C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like IDL or Matlab preferably with satellite data Experience in some of the following areas is expected and will be an advantage Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming relevant languages and tools such as Perl, Python, Java, etc. Multithreads programming The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Earth Observation Image Processing Engineer for Satellite Applications

The post consists in the development of components and applications that extract features from satellite and aerial imagery, features that will be used in GIS applications like 3D urban mapping, change detection, objects counting. The engineer will be in charge of designing and developing image processing tools used in Earth Observation applications in different domains. Occasionally the engineer may have to support technically the business development team for activities related to image processing. Primarily, the engineer will be involved in a RD project that aims to extract features from multiple high resolution satellite images 75 cm. The goal is to automatically extract information from the image to update urban maps in a middle east country. The role will focus on extracting road networks and to use existing tools and stereo images to build a 3D map. The tools will be integrated as prototype into a GIS application used by governmental bodies. The project will exploit preexisting algorithms in the context of applications with real practical benefits. As a full automatic process might not be possible, the challenge will be to consider the human factor in the design of the processing chain. The efficiency of the processing chain will be assessed on its whole, including the efficiency of the endusers. It means that the tools have to be defined in a way that makes the human task easy but attractive enough to maintain motivation and concentration. In this particular project, the engineer will be responsible for 1 Supporting the design of the full processing chain including the human factor 2 Designing and developing the features extraction algorithms based on existing tools 3 Writing the documentation that describes the tools design document, user manual... The engineer will work in a small SCRUM Deimos team 35 people, depending on the period with a certified SCRUM master. Some of the tools will be developed using IDLENVI, but the specifications could change depending on the engineer suggestions. Main Duties Design of Features Extraction components and interfaces Development and testing of the components and interfaces in a Scrum team using continuous integration Documentation during the development phase and the final product. Responsibilities We are looking for a Data Processing System engineer who will support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process in the area of DFEP and L0, and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment at our customers premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Your duties will include tasks such as preparing and providing the support of the daytoday operation and maintenance of the PDGS which is currently in the preparation phase analysis and testing of the facilities handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities being focal point when it comes to integrating the individual software facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system setting up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures coordination with external providers of maintenance services participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for Sentinel3 In support to operations, you may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the Sentinel3 commissioning and initial operations phases.
