Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to ESA. Overview The work will be performed onsite at ESTEC within the Directorate of the Science SCI. The service is expected to deliver support to the Future Mission Preparation Office, which is responsible for the identification of technology requirements and the planning, coordination and management of the associated Technology Development Activities TDAs that are conducted by the European space industry. The candidate missions are regularly renewed, typically every 1 or 2 years through an open call for missions for the Cosmic Vision Programme and discussions with the Member States. The missions can address a large spectrum of technical competences. Examples are astrophysics observations in all wavelengths from GammaX rays to the far infrared, solar observatories, landers and mobile rovers for planetary or small body exploration, specific measurement techniques such as laser interferometry, aperture synthesis and spectroscopy, novel power systems using radioisotope nuclear decay, cryogenic coolers and cryostats, spacecraft subsystem specific developments such as high thrust propulsion engine and telecommunication elements. Main Service Tasks and Responsibilities will include Coordination of technology developments and implementation planning and monitoring, including the preparation of the quarterly SCIF technology implementation report, and maintenance of the associated database Implementation scheduling of new Technology Development Activities TDAs in the Cosmic Vision technology work plans Preparation of the TDAs manpower plans Responsible for monitoring and reporting the status of the TDAs in the programme Contribution to the implementation of technology activities required for the future ESA Science missions Assistance with technology planning Support future mission assessment and advanced studies in areas related to advanced technologies, and participate in technical reviews and working groups where required Participation in systems studies to understand the technology requirements coming from mission designs Participation in technical reviews and working groups Support in preparation of any Call for Ideas or other similar interaction with the external scientific and engineering community. Specific qualification requirements Applicants should have a postgraduate Masters or PhD degree in Engineering or Physics. This post is highly diverse and technical in nature and therefore requires the candidate to ideally have more than 4 years of experience in the field of space technology. Knowledge in technical fields related to spacecraft hardware on exploration missions is highly desirable, and a willingness to learn about new technologies is essential. Experience with space hardware, in particular past handson experience in development and testing. Enthusiasm for space and in particular science missions together with a drive to achieve results are considered to be very valuable to the team. The candidate should have the demonstrated interest and ability of taking the initiative to get the job done when necessary. Effective communication skills are essential to the post in order to interface with colleagues within ESA and with external partners, in particular European industrial contractors. The candidate must possess a strong spirit of teamworking and open communication within the team. Project management skills such as planning, monitoring, reporting, and risk management are highly valuable. Expertise in working with large amounts of data and ability to process, automate and produce visual analysis in support of managerial decisions. Experience working in the international and multicultural environment of ESA and knowledge of its working processes and procedures is considered an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included. Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially. The post holder reports to the Director of ELENOR DEIMOS Satellite Systems. The post holder shall provide competent engineering support to ongoing and future Programmes, be responsible for the management of activities, covering the System Engineering activities of each programme and the coordination of all other technical areas within a mission. Location ELECNOR DEIMOS Satellite Systems, Puertollano Spain Main Duties System Engineering, performing the consolidation of mission requirements, their apportionment among elements, the definition of interfaces and the verification of achieved performances Coordination of overall system engineering with speciality engineering areas and activities. Contribution to the equipment, subsystems and provider selection strategy, in agreement with the needs of other company areas and knowhows. Training of junior engineers with a view to create and maintain a high level of competence for the systems engineering discipline. Ensuring the safety and security of each process and product, in the terms defined by applicable standards, clients, internal procedures and managers and Product Assurance appointed responsible. Education University degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline Professional Experience A minimum of five years of professional experience in relevant positions, together with a proven experience in space project management. Experience in space programmes, knowledge of the internal operations of the European Space Agency or another similar organisation is required. Technical Requirements Mastering of at least two of the following technical areas Space systems engineering, Requirements elicitation, formalization and flowdown, Architectural design, Integration of complex systems, Space systems operations, Verification and testing. Knowledge of the state of the art instruments, tools, techniques, methods and standards for the engineering disciplines under this responsibility. Knowledge of system engineering processes, spacecraft modes and algorithms, modelling, simulation and analysis, and requirements verification, safety, hazard and failure management, dependability, security. Language Skills Fluent in English and Spanish. Knowledge of other common European languages French, German, Italian shall be an asset. Personal Skills Proven leadership skills, the ability to understand and synthesise complex technical and programmatic information, coupled with good interpersonal and communication capabilities and a proven ability to apply them to the interactions with programme managers, participants and stakeholders. Strong sense of ownership, commitment to service excellence and responsibility will be favourably considered. Others Spanish and NATO Security Clearances are an asset.
