Flight Dynamics Software Engineering Support

JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The Consultant shall support software development and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Flight Dynamics Systems following formal processes and methodologies. The development cycle includes the typical phases requirements, design, development, testing with formal procedures related to configuration control, verification against the software requirements and rollout into operations. Development ranges in a mixed multiplatform environment, from fixing problems and engineering changes, technical support to the continuous operation of the system, including analysis, investigationresolution and production of the appropriate documentation. Main duties include Maintenance and Evolution activities o Software development using FORTRAN, C and Java engineered in Windows and Unix environments, interacting with Commercial Off The Shelf COTS products o Preventive maintenance Support to the 247 smooth running of facility software applications and their operating systems and in the case of anomalies affecting operations, identifying and applying appropriate first line corrective actions ensuring that in the case of problems with applications, operating systems or COTS, that the operational configuration can be restored o Corrective maintenance Investigation into relevant anomalies and solutions, their documentation and classification, with suitable, followup of software updates delivery o Evolutive maintenance Analysis of userdriven requirements, generation of software requirements, design, implementation and verificationtesting activities o Verificationtesting activities Generation of verificationtest procedures and delivery documentation, participation in verification and regression testing activities at unit and system level, participation in factory acceptance testing campaigns and execution of onsite verification testing at integration level o System upgrades Analysis, planning and management of application, operating system and COTS upgrades and reconfigurations, taking into account any compatibility issues o Definition and management of technical documentation and procedures in support of these activities. User Support o Applications support Software and technical support to the endusers of the application software by request o Attendance in meetings Participation in technical, progress and team meetings, submission of reports as required o On call service On occasions, provision of standbycallout support to operations and support to critical operations out of normal hours o Additional support Provision of support to other areas and programmes as required, for example, supporting the simulations infrastructure. Technical Management o Documentation generation and updates of technical documents o Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested o Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary o Contractor management at technical level acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organising periodical technical meetings with the contractor Software engineering framework support o Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering framework for the GSI Mission Control Applications and Tools Team o Development of tools implementing this software engineering framework. Qualifications University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Required knowledge o Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the definition, development and maintenance of Flight Dynamics software applications mainly oriented to GEO missions o Experience with support to Operations for GEO satellite Flight Dynamics Systems showing a sufficient understanding of Flight Dynamics principles e.g. Orbit determination, Orbit maintenance, Fuel estimation, etc .. o Good knowledge and understanding with working experience evidence of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS related to spacetoground interfaces. Desirable Knowledge o Experience with software development and maintenance of Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems and Tools based on the ESAIESOC NAPEOS Navigation Package for Earth Observation Satellite o Experience in integration with Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAIESOC. For our activities in Germany, we are looking for a person to provide Senior Infrastructure Engineering Consultancy Support. TASKS Taking charge and full responsibility of infrastructure projects assigned to him by the Technical Infrastructure Manager from the infrastructure project portfolio. These projects can be migrations and relocations of existing infrastructure, building new infrastructure for future programmes, additions and enhancements to existing infrastructure elements such as video and workstations, new builds and changes to power and cooling infrastructure, fiber and copper cabling, rack assembly. This does not imply budge responsibility for the incumbent. Properly using the Infrastructure productivity tools such as iPatch for cable management the Schneider Electric StruxtureWare DCIM package. Preparing design documents technical notes in EUMETSAT terminology for comple projects that are assigned to or initiated by the GSIIME CA. Preparing design drawings using Visio for the projects mentioned above. Perform handson tasks such as server, workstation, communication and video equipment installation for existing and new operational programmes and moving material out and into the Infrastructure storage areas. Outside peak periods when external resources are not available the Infrastructure Engineer is required to carry out additional hands on tasks such as rack assembly, patch cable installation, assisting in power box installation Perform other tasks as directed by the IME CA Manager. SKILLS The candidate shall have the following educational background and 5 to 10 years overall working experience and 3 to 5 years specific experience in the areas mentioned bellow Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent. Familiarity with data center infrastructure elements power, cooling, space management, racks, cabling and patching copper and fiber. Familiarity with data center operations procedures access, security, maintenance windows, mission critical processes, etc. Experience in coordinating simple projects 510 resources, project budget order of magnitude up to 20K EUR. Good communications skills with external and internal resources and stakeholders. Business acumen to identify financially viable and sustainable technical solutions. User experience related to some current ERP or workflow management system such as SAP, Oracle, Siebel or Remedy. Proficiency in work procedures related to server, workstation, communication equipment installation as well as rack assembly, electrical installations, cabling, patching and other maintenance activity around control and data centers. The person needs to be a licensed electrician. Experience in a 247, mission critical environment. MANDATORY University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline An extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for Image Navigation and Registration, and geometric correction Sound expertise in software development and proven experience in at least one coding language, preferable CC, in a UNIXLINUX environment. Familiarity with at least one tool to support algorithm software development and rapid prototyping, e.g. MATLAB, IDL, Python Handson experience in the design and implementation of estimation filters e.g. Kalman or Leastsquare filters, preferably in an Image Navigation and Registration application context A sound experience in the specification, prototyping, implementation, verification and validation of complex, realtime Level 1 data processing systems for imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft A thorough understanding of the interaction between instrumentplatform characteristics and processing impact, including product quality Experience in the development of INR processing systems preferable for large multiinstrument operational space programmes Fluency in English The ability to work effectively in small teams work autonomously without close supervision work to tight deadlines under changing conditions analyse complex problems, distinguishing between critical and less critical information, and to synthesise and clearly present the results of such analyses.
