Description of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for a System Design Authority within Airbus Cyber Security in Newport, South Wales. Job Brief Technical Supervision Management of technical requirements Introduction of improvements where necessary to design solutions and processes Investigation of any design changes, and implementing them in a controlled manner. Technical Enforcement Ensuring that appropriate design methodologies and standards are selected and followed, that the design complies with applicable legislation including safety, applicable nationalinternational and local standards and good engineering practice, and that company processes are adhered to. Technical Direction Directing development of the technical design, instigating design reviews and approving key design decisions and design documents Tasks accountabilities The SDA has responsibility for the certification and authorisation of all aspects of requirements devolvement, design, design proving, manufacture, integration and testing. The SDA has responsibility for preparation, updating and custody of the systemarchitectural specifications, drawings and other data associated with the design. The SDA has responsibility for preparing appropriate certificate of design and its submission for acceptance. The SDA has responsibility for design compliance with applicable product liability issues in liaison with designated company authorities. The SDA has responsibility for ensuring effective engineering processes are utilised in the execution of the project. Using appropriate tools and techniques to design and develop equipment to AIRBUS DEFENCE SPACE standards and specification requirements. Involvement in the development of the engineering department functions and procedures. To be responsible for their own career development. To be responsible for their own time management with regard to project task milestones. Provide technical guidance in at least one major tool or technique used by AIRBUS DEFENCE SPACE. Able to use all disciplines required in designing the whole or part of a project as determined by project milestones and their team leader. Be aware of technologicalengineering developments and issues in industry and interact with the engineering management to continuously improve engineering. Use experience to support the design and development of critical components where decisions may have a significant impact on project timescales. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Companys success, reputation and sustainable growth. Required skills Essential Experience Must be capable of solving complex problems requiring expertise in numerous technical fields. Must be capable of owning the technical understanding of an entire design in multiple technical disciplines. Must be an experienced engineer, with a successful track record of leading complex softwarehardware product development, integration and qualification Must have experience of systems design implementation for data communications products in commercial or military environments. Must have experience of embedded software development utilising bespoke hardware. Must be familiar with process driven softwarehardware development Must have experience of the full project lifecycle. Essential Skills Must be highly selfmotivated, articulate, with good verbal and written communications skills Must have an excellent understanding of work package definition, estimation and planning Must have excellent team leadership skills, with evidence of skills in negotiation and conflict resolution Desirable Skills Experience of cryptographic product development Experience of Requirements Management e.g. using DOORS. Experience with datavoice communications protocols e.g. networking, network management, VOIP Experience in developing embedded software for network devices. Experience of design for manufacture software test, productionisation of the hardware design Must have existing UK SC security clearance, or be capable of attaining UK SC clearance This role is based at Airbus Defence and Space offices, Newport, South Wales, with occasional requirements for business travel within the UK and abroad Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways, including parttime. This role based either at Stevenage or Hawthorn will form part of the Skynet 5 Systems Design Authority SDA team. As a SDA you will typically engage at the preparation for PDR stage of the project and will be a key member of the design process as the design progresses. Occasional travel is expected to the Ground Station installations and customer locations in the UK. As part of the role there may also be a requirement to travel to customer installations overseas. The Systems Design Authority SDA role is a key role for Airbus Defence and Space service delivery enabling project timelines and revenue. This post would suit anyone in currentprevious roles of Network Design Architect, Technical Architect, Technical IP ConsultantSME or Senior Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role. Chairing Design Reviews as required, and supporting the Change Management Process as authorising signatories RFC for all Skynet 5, GiN based M2 and M1 services. Oversee the integrity of engineered and documented designs. Ownership of assigned design baselines Championing the engineering disciplines during the high pressure project environment in order to avoid early life failures of the customer service. Ensure that designs are adequate and meet the customer requirement. Ensure that the requirements are fully captured, managed, analysed and understood. Ensure that Verification and Qualification activities are conducted in a traceable manner to the customer requirement Establish the design requirements and ensure that design output records accurately reflect the design basis. Allocate and manage the naming, numbering and network IP address schemes and conventions. Capacity Planning records Ports, devices, modules, IOS variants. Ensure that implementation teams understand the expected design outputs and basis for the design provide guidance and advice as required Ensuring that designs are consistent across our Managed Services so that efficiencies can be achieved in areas such as o Reusable network configuration o Reusable knowledge and skills o Simple, reusable, consistent and robust integration to other facets of Managed Services that the design needs to plug up to. o Has acceptance from the wider SDA team on design strategies, which should be shared frequently You must have come from a Telecoms or satellite communications background to be suitable for this role. Experience in most of the following areas is also desirable Extensive experience with either Provider IP Networks or largescale Enterprise WAN environments. Professional level certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP or Cisco Certified Design Professional CCDP, or similar experience, is being sought. Experience of both Preand PostSales Design. Proven Hands on implementation Recognised design leadership in past roles Technical project management Demonstrated knowledge of other areas outside of main SDA competence good around knowledge of Service features IP, VOIP and MPLS systems. Satellite communications systems. Encryption devices including DCAP, Mini Catapan and Ectocryp. Serial communication protocols.
