A federal judge threw out a lawsuit by Philip A. Falcone's Harbinger Capital Partners LLC against Charles Ergen and Dish Network Corp. over control of LightSquared Inc., ending one of many long-running legal disputes between the competitors. In the racketeering case, Harbinger accused Dish Network and its chairman, Ergen, of trying to steal control of the wireless venture in bankruptcy by means of wire fraud, mail fraud and other "unlawful acts."

Alleged kingpin in Portland auto theft ring indicted on racketeering, money laundering and fraud charges

The alleged kingpin of what police have described as a family-run criminal enterprise that paid cash to buy and crush stolen cars from across the Portland metropolitan region for metal sales has been indicted on racketeering, money laundering, theft and fraud charges. Anthony Dreu Schneider Sr., 51, who owned A-1 Light Trucks & Van Parts on North Columbia Boulevard for more than three decades, is scheduled to appear in Multnomah County Circuit Court for an arraignment Thursday afternoon on a 29-count indictment.

Chesapeake Energy to face racketeering charges in Michigan trial

Natural gas and oil producer Chesapeake Energy Corp must face trial on charges of felony racketeering and using false pretenses related to its land-leasing practices, a state judge has ruled. Cheboygan District Court Judge Maria Barton ruled on Monday that Oklahoma-based Chesapeake go to trial on one charge of racketeering and 20 counts of using false pretenses to allegedly defraud private landowners in the state during an oil and gas leasing boom in 2010.

Chesapeake Energy racketeering case heads to trial

Chesapeake Energy has been ordered to stand trial in a racketeering case that accuses it of leasing land to thwart competitors and then canceling the deals when the competition ended. A probable cause hearing in the case against the Oklahoma City-based company took place in August in Cheboygan District Court.
