Nordea lifts dividend amid profit rise

Nordea Bank AB , the Nordic region's biggest bank, Wednesday reported a 13% rise in fourth-quarter net profit, driven by higher fee and commission income and lower operating expenses, and said it aimed to increase its pay-out ratio in 2015 while cutting costs further. Net profit at the Stockholm-based bank rose to EUR877 million in the three months to Dec. 31, up from EUR773 million in the year-earlier period and against expectations for EUR872.2 million according to analyst estimates complied by SIX.

Aetna rose in strong volume early Tuesday, leading a sector rally, after it said it expects that its total medical membership at the end of 2014 would top its prior estimate of 23.4 million members. Aetna also affirmed revised full-year 2014 earnings per share guidance, initially given Dec. 12, saying it will come in at the upper end of a $6.60-$6.70 range and revenue will be $57 billion to $58 billion.

More food, car spending lifts Nevada sales numbers

State officials say Nevada's taxable sales rose nearly 5 percent in October compared with the same month a year ago, largely thanks to more spending at restaurants and car dealerships. The Nevada Department of Taxation reported Monday that taxable sales totaled $4.1 billion.
