SPI Issues Statement on Senate's approval of TPA.

On behalf of U.S. plastics industry and its workers, SPI's William R. Carteaux congratulated Senate for approving Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). "This vote," offered Carteaux, "will give trade negotiators the authority and the flexibility they need to finalize a robust Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) between the United States and 11 Pacific-rim countries." Carteaux cited TPA as having potential to expand exports as well as allowing companies to create more jobs with better wages.

SPI Collaboration to produce Recycling Summit and Expo.

SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association signed 3-year agreement with SPE and its Plastics Environmental Division to develop technical information for the Re|focus Recycling Summit & Expo, which will take place April 25-27, 2016. Event is designed to help brand owners and processors achieve their environmental goals. SPE and PED will provide educational content and materials for recyclers and engineers. Additionally, SPE will help co-promote event to their member-base and beyond.

SPI Bioplastics Division recognized by USDA.

USDA recognized Bioplastics Division of SPI for its contributions to their report, titled "An Economic Impact Analysis of the U.S. Biobased Products Industry: A Report to the Congress of the United States of America." Report made specific recommendations for how lawmakers can support continued growth of U.S. biobased products industrial sector. Bioplastics Division contributed by providing interviews with researchers as well as a copy of Division’s 2012 Bioplastics Industry Overview Guide.

SPI FFBD Welcomes Board Members from Petoskey, Dow, and Hosokawa.

Plastics Industry Trade Association's Flexible Film and Bag Division (FFBD) announced 3 newly elected board members: Jason Keiswetter, director of marketing at Petoskey Plastics; Mike Moran, North American director of sales for the Dow Chemical Company’s Performance Plastics Business; and David Nunes, president of Hosokawa Alpine American. Each will serve 2-year term on Executive Board, which directs activities of FFBD.

SPI Presents IKO with Award for excellence in design.

SPI congratulated IKO for winning SPI Student Design Award, part of Industrial Designers Society of America's (IDSA) International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) program, with Prosthetic Creative System. According to SPI President and CEO William R. Carteaux, the winner "is a great example of how plastic materials and innovative design can combine to create something that isn’t simply functional, but socially and psychologically empowering for young children with disabilities."
