EPA Registers New Nematicide Alternative to Restricted-Use Soil Fumigants, Including Methyl ...
2014-09-12 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
U.S. EPA is registering new active ingredient, fluensulfone, which consists of non-fumigant nematicide that provides lower-risk chemical control of nematodes than methyl bromide and other Restricted Use soil fumigants. Intended for pre-plant, bare-soil application on fruiting vegetables and cucurbits, fluensulfone meets applicable safety requirements. With its evaluation, EPA confirms that fluensulfone, when used in accordance with newly approved label, meets safety requirements. Greenhouse Gases: A New Group Of Soil Micro-Organisms Can Contribute To Their Elimination
2014-09-01 08:32:06| pollutiononline Home Page
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas that is also responsible for destroying the ozone layer. INRA research scientists in Dijon have shown that the ability of soils to eliminate N2O can mainly be explained by the diversity and abundance of a new group of micro-organisms that are capable of transforming it into atmospheric nitrogen (N2).

Woodlawn-King Soil Sampling
2014-08-16 00:00:16| PortlandOnline
Environmental Services is designing three large-scale sewer projects in North and Northeast Portland neighborhoods to replace or repair approximately 53,300 feet of public sewer pipes that are on average 90 years old and failing due to age. This is the equivalent of 10 miles of sewer pipes. The three adjacent project areas will include construction in Piedmont, Humboldt, Woodlawn and King neighborhoods plus a few blocks in Overlook.
