We are looking for an OnBoard Payload Data Processing Engineer E3 to join our Ajilon Technology Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands Ajilon Technology Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Ajilon is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 110 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. The work covers the following technical domains Computers for realtime onboard applications, both as selfcontained units and as embedded items in subsystem equipment. The work includes system design for faulttolerant computer systems, component design and development, operating systems, and identification of tools and methods for dependable specification, design and testing. Data systems for onboard data communication, spacecraft system operation under ground control and with onboard autonomy, groundonboard data communication, and for manned spaceflight crew informatics and interfaces. This includes data system standards and specific software, e.g. data communication software. Data storage, i.e. onboard solidstate mass memory systems, including architecture, components, interfaces, packaging technologies, and operational usage. Electronic design essentially for the implementation of digital functions related to onboard data systems. Payload data acquisition and processing chains, including digital and image processing techniques and devices. Specific tasks to be performed A diverse range of support tasks is required to be carried out by the Contractor within the above domains, encompassing hardware, software and system aspects. These can be grouped within the following main headings Validation of signal and image processing algorithms via simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, prototyping SW Definition, design and validation of payload data acquisition, processing and storage chains Implementation of payload data processing functions on processors e.g. Digital Signal Processors and FPGAs based platforms Specific engineering support in the above domains to mainstream ESA space projects, mainly for but not restricted to the development and testing phases. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Education on at least Master level. A minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience, preferably within the space domain. Experience in defining payload data processing systems architectures. Extensive knowledge in signal and image processing techniques and devices Extensive experience in procurement of units, subsystems integration and testing Knowledge in onboard electronics design related to data acquisition, processing and storage functions Wide knowledge in communication networks principles, standards and their implementation. This includes highspeed networks such as SpaceWire and SpaceFibre Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager. About ESAESTEC The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work handson with mission design, spacecraft and space technology. Almost all ESA projects except launchers are managed from ESTEC. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites. ESTEC provides extensive testing facilities to verify the proper operation of spacecraft, such as the Large Space Simulator LSS, acoustic and electromagnetic testing bays, multiaxis vibration tables and the ESA Propulsion Laboratory EPL.
