Telia Q4 profit down on Eurasia writedowns, dividend still up 15%

(Telecompaper) Telia Company reported a sharp fall in net profit for the fourth quarter, as the Swedish operator wrote down its holdings in Eurasia. The company took total impairment charges of SEK 3.850 billion on Azercell, Geocell, Ucell and Moldcell, leading to net profit of SEK 754 million for Q4, down from SEK 7.338 billion a year ago when it booked a profit on the sale of Spanish operator Yoigo. Separately, Telia announced a deal to sell its stake in Geocell.

Telenor Q3 loss widens on writedowns, revenues still growing

(Telecompaper) Telenor saw its net loss for the third quarter widen to NOK 4.82 billion from NOK 1.77 billion a year ago, after writedowns on operations in India and stake in Vimpelcom. The company took an impairment charge of NOK 4 billion on its Indian licences after the recent spectrum auction there, while the Vimpelcom stake suffered total writedowns of NOK 2.4 billion after Telenor sold part of its shares in the Russian operator during the quarter. Telenor still reported a small increase in underlying results. Revenues rose to NOK 32.79 billion from NOK 31.84 billion a year earlier, with organic growth of 1.8 percent. EBITDA increased to NOK 12.46 billion from NOK 11.85 billion, and the margin increased to 38.0 percent from 37.2.

Blackberry loss swells to USD 670 mln after writedowns

(Telecompaper) BlackBerry recorded a net loss of USD 670 million for its fiscal first quarter to May, reversing a profit of USD 68 million a year ago. The company took a number of writedowns in the quarter, including USD 501 million on assets, USD 57 million on goodwill and USD 41 million on inventory. Gross profit halved to USD 154 million, as revenue fell to USD 400 million from USD 658 million a year ago. BlackBerry said adjusted EBITDA remained positive for the tenth consecutive quarter and should remain so over the full year. Cash flow should also be positive over the full year, after a cash burn of USD 65 million in Q1, and the company said its more efficient operating model should mean an annual adjusted net loss half what the market currently expects, at around USD 0.15 per share.

Blackberry revenues drop to USD 464 mln on write-downs

(Telecompaper) Blackberry revenues for the fourth quarter fell to USD 464 million from 660 million the year before, pulled down by write-downs associated with recent acquisitions. The net result sank to a loss of USD 238 million or USD 0.45 per share, from a gain of 28 million or 0.05 per share, reflecting negative one-offs and amortisation, as well as pre-tax charges of USD 192 million related to restructuring and acquisition costs.
