A vacancy has arisen for an On Board Software Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The Central Engineering technical unit for Data Processing On Board Software comprise departments in UK, France and Germany. The function of the technical unit is to provide a central competence that supports the evolving needs of the business, working on satellite platforms, payloads and equipment. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows As part of the UKs On Board Software Department, the successful candidate is expected to perform embedded software engineering activities as part of a Software development team that is set up to service the requirements of the Business Unit Project Office. In general the engineer is expected to Primarily taking responsibility across full Embedded Software development lifecycle specific roleactivity will depend on phase of project and experience. Manage their own time and agreed budgets in accordance with project and department requirements in order to secure an onquality, on cost, and ontime delivery of the Onboard software to the Project Programme. Particular involvement and responsibility as described in the following Specification of software requirements. Definition of the onboard software architecture. Detailed software designs and realisation. Software unit testing, integration and validation testing. Preparation of documentation required for the development and at key reviews e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, QR, and participation as appropriate in those reviews. Supporting the synthesis of relevant software budgets. Support Software Project Manager on scheduling. Postdelivery project maintenance Opportunities to travel work for periods in other Astrium offices in France or Germany or for reviews at Customer sites are possible. Limited in most cases to a few days, but longer periods could be available for strategic work needs. The Department is involved in the complete lifecycle of activities relating to OnBoard Software development. These range from requirements capture, support to System Software engineering, design, implementation, verification and validation, and maintenance. The software developed by this Department is of an embedded real time nature. Software is deployed within the Satellite, and Satellite Instrumentation, to provide the required Functionality and Control. Typically, the software would be designed using UML methodology implemented in the ANSIC language contain a number of hardware interface drivers and incorporate the use of a Realtime Operating System. Its application elements would normally include Telemetry Telecommand communications Attitude and Orbit Control Systems Platform system management power, thermal etc. and Mode control Payload control and management and Health MonitoringRecoveryReporting. Specialist applications will depend on the mission. We strive for maximum reuseinheritance of architecture component software in order to minimise program costs and schedule.
