Six Hawaii residents are suing the state government for an election that the state says would give native Hawaiians their long-due self government, and they say is unconstitutionally race-based. An election for delegates to a Native Hawaiian constitutional convention will proceed as planned, despite a challenge in federal court. "Our plan is to keep to the schedule," Bill Meheula, attorney for Na'i Aupuni, a nonprofit organization that is organizing the election and will oversee the aha, or convention, said Friday.

Some Native Hawaiians disapprove of the name of a movie filmed and set in Hawaii, saying that titling it "Aloha" is a disrespectful misappropriation of culture and simplifies a word that's rich with meaning. The Cameron Crowe film starring Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams and Emma Stone, opens Friday, with a screening in Honolulu three days before.
