It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Flight Dynamics Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Hawthorn. You will perform flight dynamics activities as directed by the Flight Dynamics Manager for the constellation of spacecraft controlled by Airbus Defence and Space. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Orbit determination, including Analysis of required ranging campaigns, Scheduling of ranging activities, Analysis of orbit determination performance, Formulation of recommendation for orbit determination improvement. Manoeuvre planning, including Planning of manoeuvres and management of manoeuvre schedule taking into account operational constraints, Generation of manoeuvre products, Manoeuvre assessment including propellant accounting and thruster performance, Generation of drift orbit entry and station acquisition manoeuvres with associated predictions products for spacecraft relocation, Generation of graveyard manoeuvres with associated predictions products for retirement of inservice spacecraft that have reached end of life. Plan platform specific flight dynamics operations. Generation of routine onstation predictions. Propellant Estimation. Space situational awareness activities Conjunction analysis, Interference analysis, Space weather. Provide oncall support to Spacecraft Operations for SKYNET 5 ESR recovery and SCU reset. Oncall support is provided on a roster basis, only one member of the Flight Dynamics Team will be oncall at any time. Liaise with external agencies with regard to collocation of spacecraft including coordination of manoeuvres, generation of separation predications, and data exchange. Maintain operational documentation. Dissemination of ephemeris data. Production of master daily schedule and associated task sheets. Production of weekly schedule. Routine inspection of spacecraft status and log books. Produce reports required by the Space Directorate and customer including Weekly spacecraft report, Quarterly spacecraft report SKYNET 4 only, Equinox report SKYNET 4 only, Flight dynamics inputs for SKYNET 5 annual report. The Flight Dynamics Engineer may also be asked to perform the following functions as and when the opportunity arises Participate on the Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP of new Paradigm spacecraft. Flight Dynamics software development. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or higher in Physics, Maths or related subject with working background in the Space Industry including Satellite Flight Dynamics or AOCS. Previous experience of SKYNET 4 or E3000 Flight Dynamics would be desirable. Previous LEOP experience would be appreciated. Experience of Matlab and Simulink, Mathematical modelling. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Flight Dynamics Systems Section. The Sections main responsibilities are test and validation of Flight Dynamics data products and processes during mission operations preparation, operations execution and performance evaluation for all missions supported by the Division ongoing maintenance and further development of the Divisions Orbit and Attitude Operations System ORATOS support layer software and provision of related user support configuration and administration of the Divisions hardware and operating systems, including user support and system evolution having regard to ESOCwide infrastructure activities. The incumbent will provide Flight Dynamics support to satellite projects, including study, development, tests, operations, evaluation and maintenance activities, addressing both infrastructure and projectspecific issues. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, physics or another relevant engineering discipline. Experience of Flight Dynamics operations, systems engineering and software systems development is a distinct advantage. Candidates should be capable of approaching their technical tasks with rigour and discipline, developing and following a systematic, thorough and resultsoriented approach. Problemsolving skills are essential. Team spirit is a key asset for the execution of the duties and responsibilities. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks to be accomplished in the job, which requires highly developed spacecraft system operations engineers skills, will cover space segment OPS engineering activities related to Requirements analysis and operational concept development Definition and production of the ground mission data, covering operations documentation sets, in cooperation with the facility and domain experts. This will include GCPs, SCPs and Operations Guides. Standbycallout support During periods of standby support, the Engineer shall respond to calls by provided telephone or beeper outside normal working hours within 10 minutes of the initial contact, and shall provide remote support to Operations. The Engineer may, by telephone, ascertain the nature of the problem but shall be available, if required, to report to the Mission Control Centre within one hour of callout. A total of 540 standby hours and 20 callout support hours during the LEOP and IOV are foreseen Launch or Operations Campaign support It is expected that during this period working time may exceed the normal daily working hours or involve work on public holidays or weekends. Such period will be declared as launch campaign with one month notice. A total of 28 launch campaign days of 12 hours work each will be required. Shift operations support For certain periods, the Engineer may be required to support operations in a 2x12 hours shift pattern morning and evening shifts possibly involving work on public holidays or weekends. Please note that up to one additional hour for the operations shift instruction handover is required and should be taken into account. Shift requests will be given with one week notice. A total of 4 shifted working days during the LEOP is foreseen. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the personnel responsible for performing this service shall have at least 5 years of experience of spacecraft and related ground segment operations, in particular Experience of Ground Segment System Operations to support Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3Axis Stabilised Spacecraft with key expertise in one or more areas of the ground segment areas e.g. System, MC, Flight Dynamics, Simulator, TTC station, interfaces during operation preparation, LEOP, commissioning and routine operations phases, Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for remote sensing spacecraft System and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a high availability 247 operational environment Satellite monitoring and control systems Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and operations Investigation into anomalies, their documentation, classification and correctionmitigation, participation in Anomaly Review Boards and, where applicable, Operations Incident investigation and review activities Familiarity with the ECSS standards. Experience with development and validation of operational ground segment and associated operations procedures for nominal and contingency recovery cases.
