EPSSG Senior Space Segment Engineer

This post supports the cooperation with ESA on the space segment for the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG Metop Second Generation MetopSG programme. After an initial introduction phase at EUMETSAT, the duty station will be in the ESA establishment in the Netherlands ESTEC, Noordwijk. The post holder will report to the ESA MetopSG Project Manager as a member of the established joint Single Space Segment Team SSST whilst maintaining close coordination with the EPSSG Programme Manager in EUMETSAT. Up until the end of commissioning of both protoflight model satellites 2024 of MetopSG, the duty station will remain at ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands and may be then moved to the EUMETSAT Headquarters afterwards DUTIES Represent EUMETSAT in the Single Space Segment Team SSST for technical and programmatic aspects In the role of Deputy Project Manager for MetopSG, assist and report to the ESA MetopSG Project Manager Support the ESA Project Manager in the implementation of the MetopSG satellite development activities, including management of industry partners Coordinate all matters related to the Space Segment and the deliverables exchanged between EUMETSAT and ESA Launcher Interfaces, Customer Furnished Item CFI instruments, Simulators, Databases, etc. Provide technical expertise on the satellite requirements and performance Maintain regular reporting and coordination with the EUMETSAT EPSSG team to ensure coherence of satellite and system development activities Coordinate programmatic activities relating to EUMETSAT CFI instruments, as required in the frame of the satellite preparation activities Provide technical support to the launcher interface definition and evolutions Support the definition and implementation of the launch campaigns of the satellites Support the preparation and execution of the Launch and Early Operations Phase LEOP Support the preparation and execution of the Satellite InOrbit Verification and Commissioning activities Support the definition and monitor the execution of the satellites storage activities Followup the health status of the inorbit satellites and organise support from Industry as required e.g. anomalies, complex operations, etc. Ensure that inorbit experience is taken into account for the preparation of the recurrent satellites Support to EPS Third Generation definition phase. QUALIFICATIONS University degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE A minimum of ten years professional experience in Space Segment engineering, procurement and management, preferably in the frame of an Earth Observation satellite development programme Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to apply these to the interactions with teams having different or conflicting interests Proven ability to understandsynthesise complex issues and appreciate conflicting interests Capability to propose the steps necessary to control risks and guide critical decisions. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A4A5 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 8047 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable based on skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
