For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Copernicus Ground Segment System Engineer at EUMETSAT. Aufgaben Tasks Within the System Engineering and Project Division SEP of the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, the Ground Segment System Engineer will work in the Ground Segment System Engineering team GSSE, supporting the requirement management, design, development and implementation of the ground segments of the Copernicus missions under EUMETSAT responsibility, having a particular emphasis on the continuity of operations and the control of changes and evolutions of the systems. The initial focus of the activities of the Ground Segment System Engineer will be the development of capabilities to reach full engineering professionalism in the area of system engineering of operational ground segments. Once the basic skills and capabilities of the consultant have been developed and exercised, the Ground Segment System Engineer shall support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs S3 Ground Segment maintenance and necessary evolutions. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, including among others Participate in the system engineering processes for managing requirements through the lifecycle of ground segments, using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORS for maintenance, traceability, verification and validation of requirements Support the technical analysis of the architecture and specifications of major upgrades of ground segments, in order to ensure coherence and compatibility with other ongoing developments and identify impacts on baseline technical documentation Contribute to maintaining the reference architecture of the overall EUMETSAT ground segment through the assessment of relevant technologies and design options, based on a Model Based Engineering approach Support the definition of the Integration Verification Validation IVV approach and the related tests for evolutions of existing systems and installation of new systems Support the maintenance of a complete and consistent set of system level documentation and drawings. Preparing and providing support to the day to day operation and maintenance of the Copernicus S3 ground segment, including the handling of the anomalies raised during the operation of the system and control of changes. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Essential requirements The consultant should have a minimum of three years experience in the following fields University degree or equivalent in system engineering or other relevant discipline. System Engineering for the development, or major upgrades, of Ground Segments for Earth Observation missions, or their main components Software development lifecycles, system testing for Earth Observation systems and knowledge of the Ground System Engineering processes and standards i.e. ECSS. Specific Tasks The Contractor will be assigned to the System Modelling and Functional Verification section in the Software Systems Division, Systems, Software and InOrbit Demonstration Department, Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. The initial task will be performed for the Galileo Ground Mission Segment Engineering Element Section, Ground Mission Segment Division, Ground Segment Department, Galileo Project Office. After appropriate familiarisation, the position encompasses the responsibility for the Operability Chain based on MUCF, MSF, GACF and VTP. The position is supported by the respective Technical Officers for the MUCF, MSF, and GACF. Responsibilities and duties include in particular Ensuring the engineering, development, deployment, verification and validation of Galileo Operability Chain functions MUCF, MSF, VTP, GACF in the areas of monitoring control of Galileo assets, archiving, realtime and offline mission monitoring, mission uplink and control, mission support, training and maintenance. Ensuring the definition of interfaces and data formats for the data exchange of the Galileo Operability Chain Facilities. Assessment of the overall GMS operability and integrated logistic support ILS aspects of the GMS functions including the verification of the related operational procedures. Assessment of operational improvements provided by the GMS operators, coordination of discussion and agreement with GMS operators and GMS industrial partners as part of regular GMSOPS Working Group meetings and organization of MMI workshops. Preparing, supporting and followup the procurements actions and industry contracts with regard to the implementation of the VTP. Supporting the engineering, development, deployment, verification and validation of VTP. Support to Operations related to operability and ILS aspects, eg. spares management, training organization, etc. Contribution to the GMS overall Engineering activities Requirements Engineering, Change Management and Baseline evolutions, Assessments of RFDRFWs, HWSW COTS, obsolescence management, etc. Support to the introduction of a new StateoftheArt hardware infrastructure virtualized platform, datacentric design, etc, Specific Competence Requirements The candidate shall have practical experience of working in Ground Segment and system verification. University degree Masters in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
