2015-09-18 14:31:09| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
By calculating position, velocity, and time on-chip, Model BCM47748 removes bulk of signal processing from device MCU. Chip uses intelligent firmware to extend battery life while also maintaining accuracy in speed, distance, and position for optimized user experience. Housed in 70-ball WLBGA package with 0.4 mm ball pitch, device can produce GNSS fixes with only 5 mA current consumption in certain scenarios. Additional features include geofencing and lifelogging capabilities.

Ericsson brings mobile calls to Wi-Fi only devices
2015-09-18 08:57:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Ericsson announced the addition of a new functionality, Wi-Fi calling for multi-device, to its existing Ericsson Wi-Fi calling platform. This feature enables operators to extend voice service coverage from smartphones to Wi-Fi-only devices, such as tablets and personal computer. Customers can use devices that have only Wi-Fi access capabilities to make regular voice calls over any Wi-Fi network. The device can be at a different Wi-Fi access point to their smartphone, and the customer can choose to pick up calls on either of the devices. Calls can therefore be made in locations with poor cellular coverage, such as inside residential buildings. In addition, consumers are no longer forced to rely on over-the-top voice services over Wi-Fi access. Wi-Fi calling for multi-device is integrated natively in devices that support this functionality. The Ericsson offering comprises product support in Evolved Packet Core, IP Multimedia Subsystem, User Data Management and OSS/BSS, as well as system integration services. The functionality is verified and tested end-to-end towards device brands that support this service. Ericsson supports multiple options for call set-up use cases, such as simultaneous calls on several devices and transfer of ongoing calls between devices. It is expected that the first operators will commercially launch Wi-Fi calling for multi-device services during 2015.
