(Telecompaper) Telenor and TeliaSonera said the European Commission has addressed a statement of objections to the companies regarding the proposed merger of their operations in Denmark but they are confident that it will be approved during the second half of 2015. They said that, contrary to the concerns raised in the statement of objections, they firmly believe that the merger would ultimately be beneficial for competition and Danish consumers. They added that a statement of objections is an ordinary event in the context of a merger of this type.

White House 'strongly objects' to trucking provisions in T-HUD; veto likely

Even as a House committee gave it a procedural go-ahead, a funding bill that contains several provisions sought by the trucking industry would likely face a veto, the White House said Monday. The annual appropriations package for the Transportation and the Housing departments , also known as the T-HUD bill, includes policy riders that would extend a suspension of the restart rules contained in the 2013 change in hours of service, would permit twin 33-foot trailers on Interstates, and would block an increase in carrier financial responsibility minimums.

St. Paul: West Side group objects to chemical tank plans

A group of St. Paul's West Side residents are fighting a proposal from Hawkins Inc. to build eight chemical tanks, a tank containment structure, and truck and rail loading areas at 701 Barge Channel Road. The site, owned by the St. Paul Port Authority, is across from Pig's Eye Lake, between Concord Street and the Mississippi River, north of the St. Paul Police Department's impound lot.
