Dicht an dicht sitzen die großen Vögel auf den schwimmenden Nisthilfen.Insgesamt 32 Pelikane zählten Aleksandar Radunoviæ und seine Kollegen bei ihrem Kontrollgang vor wenigen Tagen. Für einen stabilen Bestand ist das jedoch bei weitem zu wenig. In den vergangenen Jahren gab es immer wieder Verluste von Eiern und Jungvögeln, die durch menschliche Störungen und die starken Wasserstandsschwankungen des Skutari-Sees verursacht wurden. Die Pelikankolonie ist daher immer noch gefährlich klein, erklärt EuroNatur-Projektleiter Pavel Beèka. Um die Kolonie zu stabilisieren, hat EuroNatur daher gemeinsam mit seinen Partnern ein Maßnahmenpaket zum Schutz der Tiere geschnürt. In einem ersten Schritt wurden vor Beginn der diesjährigen Brutsaison vier Brutplattformen aus Holz und Styropor installiert und mit Schilf aufgeschichtet. Diese sollen helfen, den Bruterfolg der Pelikane zu erhöhen. Zwar nutzen die Krauskopfpelikane die Plattformen bisher nur zum Ruhen. Unsere Erfahrung aus früheren Projekten zeigt aber, dass dies ein erstes positives Signal ist.
