Smart grids have been widely discussed for about a decade now, but most of the US is still years away from seeing a real smart grid. However, a successful large-scale rollout of a smart grid in Florida might just be what the rest of the country needs to get motivated. Installing and networking sensors all over the power grid is an expensive proposition, but the increased efficiency and reduced outages make it the obvious next step for modern infrastructure.
