The general task of the key person shall be the provision of advice and engineering consultancy to the MTG System Ground Station Requirements Verification Engineering in the frame of the Phase CD of the MTG Programme. The Meteosat Third Generation MTG will see the launch of six new geostationary imaging and sounding satellites from 2021 onwards and will guarantee access to spaceacquired meteorological data until at least the early 2040s. The whole MTG programme is based on a twin satellite concept 4 imaging satellites MTGI, 2 sounding satellites MTGS with different payloads The Flexible Combined Imager FCI The Lightning Imager LI The Infrared Sounder IRS The Ultraviolet, Visible and Nearinfrared Sounder UVN The MTG system is established through cooperation between EUMETSAT and the European Space Agency ESA. ESA has already contributed to the initial research and development of the new satellites. The first MTGI and MTGS prototypes are being developed by ESA as part of its MTG programme. The EUMETSAT MTG programme includes the procurement of the four recurrent satellites, ground segment development, and future operations. Aufgaben und Pflichten Responsibilities Duties The applicant will contribute to the preparation, execution and reporting of the MTG requirements verification engineering activities, which includes Support the refinement of the prelaunch system verification strategy at the level of individual requirements with the elaboration of the Initial Verification Control Document VCD at System and Ground Segment levels, ensuring the consistency of the verification approach with lower levels using the traceability of requirements Perform the progressive establishment of the MTG verification status for each requirement, maintaining the verification status of the System and Ground Segment levels in closecoordination with the status of the lower levels Review the VCDs produced at lower levels and report on inconsistencies then ingest them in the upper level VCDs Contribute to the generation of the Verification Control Document VCD and associated verification reports inline with the results of the Detailed Design Phase and the results of the of the testing execution Contribute to the definition of the test scenarios and tests specifications regarding the list of requirements to be verified by testing inline with VCD Prepare inputs to Verification Control Boards VCB and other adhoc meetings as requested Generate periodic reports with quantitative metrics and indicators on the status of verification of the whole system and alert on the outcome of those The setup and maintenance of the verification support tools necessary in support to the verification control activity in DOORS in coordination with the DOORS maintenance administration team including the setup and maintenance of the tool for the generation of the initial and final VCD in DOORS and its daily administration, with the development of adhoc DXL scripts and views required for the execution of the verification control in DOORS the tools for the ingestion into EUMETSAT DOORS database of external VCD as delivered from the contractor. Our second generation of polar system satellites EPSSG will monitor the weather, the environment and climate change via three Metop SG satellites developed by our partner ESA. The first satellite launch is due in 2021 and we are looking for an Engineer to help us prepare the ground segment to maximise its performance. You will be responsible for the integration, verification and validation IVV of our ground segment as part of this mission. You will also manage our service contracts with our partners and suppliers. This role is integral to the success of the programme, as you will monitor the schedule and resources available to keep things on track. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description The Software Systems Division covers engineering, verification and validation techniques for space systems, in particular in the functional domain. This includes missioncritical software, software technology for flight as well as ground systems, realtime software embedded in spacecraft systems and payloads, but also ground facilities software, including electrical ground support equipment, test benches, databases and simulation and modelling tools. Future missions will rely on an increased level of autonomy to enable more complex missions and an increased performance. For the design of such missions, increased use is made of modelbased methods and tools, impacting the engineering information management along the lifecycle of the development. The impact of this evolution on the verification and validation process needs to be fully understood to ensure the required quality of these missions. These systems will operate in a partially unknown environment and will feature adaptation and selfaware behaviour that could lead to emergent behaviour. To address the shortcomings of traditional Verification and Validation VV approach for space autonomous systems, the incremental development of the Harwell Robotics and Autonomy Facility HRAF has been initiated. The present development focuses on two out of three main activities of the VV process simulation and experimentation, with planetary rover as main application. In support of this development, the research will address formal methods and verification as part of the model based engineering process for specifying, developing, testing and evaluating space autonomous systems. As to achieve the proposed ambitious goal, these specific objectives are defined Identify gaps where traditional VV framework are misaligned or deficient for space autonomous systems Develop methods to automate requirements evaluation for testability and traceability Develop techniques to support appropriate decisions with traceable evidence during design phase Demonstrate the benefits and advantages of the research outcomes in HRAF. The research will entail SysML or equivalent modelling at system level, and mixed reality testing of autonomous robotic systems using HRAF HLA based distributed simulation environment. The post will involve collaboration across ESA directorates, academic and industrial partners. Job description EDRS European Data Relay System is a satellite based high data rate optical communication system for relaying user data received from low earth orbit LEO satellites via geostationary satellites directly to the ground for further distribution. The system consists of the space segment two geostationary satellites and the ground segment. The first GEO satellite EDRSA has been launched January 2016 and the second GEO satellite is planned for third quarter 2017. Kaband intersatellite links are supported alongside with the optical communication capacity. A Kaband based service will be provided to the International Space Station from late 2017 onwards. Future system evolution will expand the EDRS service range to manned and unmanned aeronautical application. EDRS is a PPP program between ESA and Airbus. Airbus CIS is the prime contractor and responsible for the management and implementation of the programme and the subsequent provision of the data relay service to ESA and other customers over a period of minimum 15 years. The operation of the system and the corresponding provision of the data relay service is done through the EDRS ground segment consisting of primary and backup mission operation centre MOC primary and backup satellite control centre SCC payload control centre DPCC four ground stations communication network The primary mission operation centre is located at Airbus Ottobrunn. Tasks As a Verification Validation Engineer for Operations Products, you are responsible for the validation of flight procedures.
