MTN confirms USD 5.2 bln fine in Nigeria

(Telecompaper) MTN Group has confirmed that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has imposed a fine equivalent to USD 5.2 billion on its subsidiary in Nigeria. In a statement to its shareholders, MTN said this fine relates to the timing of the disconnection of 5.1 million MTN Nigeria subscribers who were disconnected in August and September for failure to register their personal details. The fine is based on an amount of NGN 200,000 for each unregistered subscriber. MTN Nigeria said it's in discussions with the NCC "to resolve the matter in recognition of the circumstances that prevailed with regard to these subscribers".

Marvel Entertainment has announced that it is teaming up with chefs Alvin Leung and Chris Cosentino to create a three-night pop-up dinner series titled Heroes and Villains in Hong Kong restaurant Bo Innovation this November, creating eight all-new "Marvel-themed" courses each night. The three-night event launches Nov. 2 with an eight-course meal created by Top Chef Masters winner Consentino, inspired by his favorite Marvel characters - or, perhaps, the ones with the most obvious food connection.

Providore Fine Foods is set to open in January in the newly remodeled 1920's-era De Soto Building at 2340 N.E. Sandy Blvd. The venture will house a handful of local, independent food purveyors, including Pastaworks, Arrosto, Little T American Baker, Flying Fish, The Meat Monger and eco-florist Emerald Petals.
