For our activities in Germany, we are currently looking for a person to provide Data Centre Test and Products Operations Engineer Consultancy Support. TASKS Provision of support to the daily monitoring and first line support of the Data Centre, and analysis and reporting of operational anomalies. Provision of support to the user queries received by the user service helpdesk regarding Data Centre services. Support to the development of Data Centre tools for monitoring and reporting. Provision of support to prototyping concepts for evolving the Data Centre services to support current and future EUMETSAT programmes. Provision of support to the test automation of the Data Centre evolutions. Provision of support to the development of new formats for the Archive data. Provision of support to metadata content and their specification in the new formats. Preparation and maintenance of Data Centre documentation such as operational procedures and service guides for users. Preparation of material to support the usage of Data Centre services. SKILLS University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering science discipline Excellent team working skills, able to work autonomously and have good analytical skills. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require also very good communication, presentation skills combined with the ability to perform under high workloads The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas Fluency in English is mandatory with good communication skills EU national or valid work permit for Germany CV in Europass format Minimum 3 years of skills and experience in Working in an operations environment supporting the analysis of system and user support issues Good knowledge of the testing and test automation for a complex hardware and software system Experience of working with Earth Observation data formats, their visualisation and processing Programming experience in Java language, UNIX environment, scripting in Shell and Perl Technical knowledge for specification, validation and transformation using XMLXSDXLT and their associated tools Experience in using SQL to access relational databases such as Oracle Experience of handling and manipulating binary data Distinct advantage Experience in the development of the product formats, ideally netCDF and HDF. Good knowledge of standards, conventions and guidelines for the specification of metadata for Earth Observation data, for example Climate and Forecast Conventions. Experience with Meteorological data formats such as McIDAS, GeoTiff, BUFR and GRIB. Experience with using Data Access tools such as IDV, MATLAB, IDL and THREDDS. Research FellowSatellite Mission Operation Centre Manager Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering Guildford 30,738 to 37,768 Fixed Term 2 year Full Time Ref 005416 The Surrey Space Centre SSC, part of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a worldclass institution for space research. The successful candidate will join one of the largest space systems groups in Europe and who will be responsible in managing the SSC Ground Station. The SSC groundstation is a distributed, Linuxbased system that uses Python scripts to connect a central computer controller to several software and hardware peripherals. The candidate should continue the work done by previous developers to support research, produce a robust and automated system that is able to activate and control these peripherals on an ondemand basis according to an automated schedule but able to be interrupted or modified by a human operator. This is a 24 month contract. The candidate should have experience or be familiar with Python and PyQT GUI programming Socket programming, RPC RF basics such as antennas, power amplifiers and filtering including link budget analysis, RF system measurements noise, power, VSWR etc. Hardware interfacing especially legacy serial port handling and knowledge of using APIs in software development. Linux programming, especially Bash scripting and automation SQL databases, data management. Communications theory and softwaredefined radio design especially GnuRadio and internet security experience is an advantage.
