The cities of Alpharetta an Milton will host Memorial Day ceremonies to pay tribute to the service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their homeland. Alpharetta's inaugural Memorial Day Tribute will take place at 8:30 a.m. May 25. The event is free for the public to attend and will be held at Alpharetta City Hall.

Collins visits VFW, highlights need to repair halls that house veterans' groups

The VFW Post in Batavia is in a poor state of repair, and Rep. Chris Collins is pushing legislation that could help the post, and veteran's service organizations throughout the country. Incoming post commander Ronald Jackett gave a tour of the building, with it's stained and missing ceiling tiles, corroded bathrooms and peeling paint.

Inver Hills Community College receives $25,000 grant to support veterans

Inver Hills Community College Foundation recently received a $25,000 grant from UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corporation, to fund scholarships for veterans and their family members pursuing STEM education at IHCC. The grant will be distributed over four years and will fund several scholarships per year under the UTC Aerospace Systems Veterans Scholarship program.
