Concerned that large swine feedlots in southern Minnesota are pumping millions of gallons of groundwater without proper permits, the state Department of Natural Resources has launched a compliance sweep of the region's growing livestock industry. A team of hydrologists is focusing first on Dodge, Freeborn and Blue Earth counties because of indications that some hog farmers are surpassing the state's 1 million-gallon-a-year threshold without holding the required permits, according to Dan Girolamo, a DNR supervisor in Waterville.

Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent was given a pay package worth $18.1 million last year after the world's biggest beverage company failed to meet its own growth targets. (Telecompaper) UK broadcaster ITV has agreed to acquire Dutch TV production company Talpa Media for approximately EUR 500 million in cash from Big Brother creator John de Mol. Talpa is behind such hit formats as The Voice, Utopia, I Love My Country and Dating in the Dark. Including future payments depending on performance, the maximum total consideration will be EUR 1.1 billion.
