Telespazio VEGA is looking for a dynamic engineer to work with its customer based near Munich to support their activities in the area of Columbus Operations, an ESA facility onboard International Space Station. The position will start not later than 25th of January 2016. The submission deadline for interested candidates is 17th of December 2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES You will be responsible for Long term and short term near real time planning of ESA activities onboard ISS Coordination with Flight Control Team and other European and International partners for planning activities including resource and conflict resolution Maintenance and update of ESA procedure in NASA repository Supporting Increment expedition planning and execution Support post increment activities Providing regular console support incl. weekends, as necessary Providing Oncall Support Some travelling will be required both in Europe and overseas sites in US, Japan and Russia in commensuration with the short term assignments within the planning team QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE An Engineering degree, preferably in the area of Aerospace Engineering Some experience in spacecraft operationsmission planning Fluency in English, both in speech and writing ESSENTIAL SKILLS Ability to think in an analytical way Collaborative and team worker Good communication skills Solution oriented

Nintendo patents phone-like game controller

Nintendo has been granted a patent for a game controller with a unique free-form touchscreen built into it, adding fuel to ongoing speculation that the new system the Japanese company plans to unveil in 2016 will be a hybrid console and handheld. The patent , filed in June and published this week, shows a flat handheld controller with a screen that curves around the edges and wraps around two thumbsticks on either end, resulting in a touchscreen that covers the entire face of the device.

Tasks and Responsibilities This position may include the following tasks Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission Depending on the mission assignment, during the prelaunch phase assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations. The successful candidate may be required to support development of methods or tools to assist in the execution of the operations Depending on the mission assignment, onconsole involvement in Mission Readiness Tests MRT, System Validation Tests SVT, simulations and Launch and Early Orbits Phase LEOP operations authorised by the Spacecraft Operations Manager, following established rules, procedures and practices, and where applicable in accordance with the ECSS standards In case of ground or space segment anomaly be responsible for first line support to taking corrective action, as necessary, applying the relevant contingencyemergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure safety of the spacecraft and the continuity of service provision Be responsible for informing the Spacecraft Operations Manager andor hisher official deputy when a major or critical anomaly is detected, in accordance with the established procedures Participate to other operationsrelated activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance, etc upon request from the Team Leader Depending on the assignment, perform any of the abovementioned tasks either as a Shift SpaCon or as a Backup SpaCon, i.e. continuously training on more than one mission to be ready to replace any of the other Team Members at short notice, if need be. Additional tasks within the scope of the role, qualifications and experience of the candidate at the discretion of Serco andor the Customer. Requirements Applicants should have a solid technical background and preferably a degree at BSc level in a related subject such as IT, Telecommunications, Physics or another scientific discipline, etc. The ideal candidate is a young graduate in one of the above mentioned disciplines and a strong interest in satellite missions or space activities in general. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. Knowledge of databases i.e. Oracle, MySQL, Access, MariaDB and Java XML would be considered as advantageous. Candidates should be methodical, disciplined and have a mind for efficiency as the appointed person should feel comfortable in a strictly proceduredriven critical operations environment where procedures must be carried out to the letter. Due to the operational nature of the job, candidates shall be able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress and in almost full autonomy e.g. during night shifts. As the successful candidate could be part of a small Ops Team working on a 247 shift rotation pattern, team spirit and teamplayer attitude are also essential to be able to adapt to the sometimes unavoidable shortterm changes to the shift plan resulting from sickness or other exceptional circumstance, with the purpose of avoiding any service disruption and ensuring the satellite health and safety above all. As official, recorded communications via voiceloop between stationscentres is part of the job, fluent and clearly spoken English is a mandatory requirement.
