Telecom Italia, Sky unveil joint quad-play offering
2015-04-16 14:42:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia and pay-TV operator Sky Italia have launched their joint quad-play (mobile and fixed telephony and broadband, plus TV) offering, to be called TIM Sky. A dedicated version of the My Sky HD decoder has been created for the IPTV service, which will offer Telecom Italia customers the complete Sky line-up of over 150 channels, 60 in HD and one in 3D. Initially, TIM Sky will be available for all Telecom Italia customers with a fibre-optic connection at speeds of up to 100 Mbps and ADSL at up to 20 Mbps. The full quad-play package will cost EUR 39 per month for the first 12 months (EUR 59 thereafter). Customers who already have a Telecom Italia fibre or ADSL broadband subscription will be able to receive the Sky channels for an additional EUR 14 per month. Telecom Italia said the deal would boost demand for its ultrabroadband network in Italy, while Sky said it will use the agreement to target the millions of homes that were hitherto unable to receive its offerings by satellite. The companies later confirmed that the deal will last an initial five years.

Telecom Italia may officially reopen Metroweb talks - report
2015-03-26 11:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia may decide to officially reopen talks to take over fibre-optic provider Metroweb at its 26 March board meeting in Venice, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. The company has been pressured into restart negotiations by Vodafone Italia's signature of a non-disclosure agreement over Metroweb, which formally opened talks to buy a stake in the group. The Italian government is hoping to use Milan-based Metroweb as the vehicle for its ambitious fibre-optic expansion plans but Telecom Italia has made it clear that it is only interested in taking part in the project if it receives 51 percent ownership of the company. Talks to buy a stake in Metroweb collapsed in February after Telecom Italia's board decided that conditions were not yet right for a deal.

Telecom Italia may revive Metroweb talks after Vodafone move-sources
2015-03-26 07:50:55| Telecom - Topix.net
Metroweb is a small firm which rents out fibre optic cables but Prime Minister Matteo Renzi considers the partly state-owned company as a building block for a 12 billion euro plan to roll out high-speed networks in Italy. Buying a stake in Metroweb, which owns the biggest fibre-optic network in Italy's business capital Milan, could ultimately determine who calls the shots in the multi-billion-euro plan.
