Electrical and medical imaging manufacturers represented by NEMA welcomed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement signed on February 4, 2016 by U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and his counterparts from 11 partner countries. After reviewing TPP text, NEMA's Kevin J. Cosgriff said that it "meets our industries' objectives for elimination of customs duties, reduction of non-tariff barriers, and opening access to standards and regulatory processes in participating markets."

Manufacturers Call on Senate to send customs bill to president.

"If senators want to grow manufacturing in the United States, then they should pass this bill immediately," insisted NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons in his statement made prior to vote by U.S. Senate to end debate and proceed to final passage on Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015. Timmons cited costly current customs and border policies and resulting competitive disadvantage and called this bill "one of the most concrete improvements...in over a decade."

Working with global partners, researchers at NREL completed 5 years of work toward establishing international quality standard for manufacturing photovoltaic (PV) modules. Supplementing existing ISO-9001 and jointly developed by IEC and International PV Quality Assurance Task Force (PVQAT), new standard appears in "Terrestrial Photovoltaic (PV) Modules - Guidelines for increased confidence in PV module design qualification and type approval."
