USDA to Provide Funding to Fight PEDV

2014-06-10 02:27:00| National Hog Farmer

USDA announced it was dedicating $26.2 million in funding to combat porcine epidemic diarrhea firus (PEDV) and Swine Delta Coronavirus. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack said, In the last year, industry has estimated PEDV has killed some 7 million piglets and caused tremendous hardship for many American pork producers. The number of market-ready hogs this summer could fall by more than 10 percent relative to 2013 because of PEDV. Together with industry and our state partners, the steps we will take through the Federal Order will strengthen the response to PEDV and these other viruses and help us lessen the impact to producers. read more

Other examples of naturally occurring carbon sinks include forests and, indeed, the oceans themselves....

That story has a certain simplistic appeal and apparent logical consistency. Unfortunately it also has almost nothing to do with the reality of where conservatives...

Greenhouse-gas fight could hurt Democrats

2014-06-08 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Columbus Dispatch: President Barack Obamas proposed restrictions to reduce greenhouse gases continue a 40-year federal effort to clean the air, but he might have seriously damaged Democratic chances of holding the Senate in the November elections. Although polls show that a sizable majority of Americans support efforts to reduce the threat of climate change, the new rules designed to curb carbon-dioxide emissions from power plants are unpopular in states that produce coal or rely on coal-produced electricity. The...
