The Space Science Center at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a fulltime position as Ground Station EngineerOperator. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2020. Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a widerange of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. The Morehead State University Space Science Centers 21m antenna is becoming an affiliated node on the NASAJPL Deep Space Network. MSU will be the fourth node on the network the other three are in California, Madrid, and Spain, and are all NASA owned assets. The Ground Station Engineer Operator represents a unique position which requires specialized knowledge of RF engineering, mechanical engineering, uplink and downlink systems, ground data systems and satellite mission operations. RESPONSIBILITIES The Ground Station Engineer Operator GSEO provides uplinkdownlink tracking and ranging support for future NASA and private sector spacecraft missions. Responsible for completing reports including completion of pass logs, completion of anomaly reports, test reports, and development of test procedures. Mentors undergraduate and graduate student research and design projects for students and engages in activities that promote the space systems engineering programs at MSU. REQUIREMENTS The Ground Station EngineerOperator will hold a Bachelors degree in Space Science, Space Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Must show evidence of degree completion by the starting date of this appointment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Masters degree in Space Systems Engineering or related discipline. Experience in ground station operations, uplink and downlink systems, and RF engineering are strongly preferred. Experience in operations utilizing DSN equipment preferred. EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency monitoring the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. EUMETSAT currently operates a fleet of ten Earth Observation satellites in Low Earth and geostationary orbits comprising seven EUMETSAT satellites and two Copernicus Sentinel3 satellites. In parallel, EUMETSAT is preparing for the launch and operations of six next generation satellites in the period 20202025, beginning with the Sentinel6 A Michael Freilich satellite followed by five Meteosat Third Generation and Metop Second Generation satellites. Reporting to the Ground Stations Operations Manager, the Ground Stations Operations Engineer coordinates routine and special operations of EUMETSAT Ground Stations and outsourced ground station services. She will be part of the Ground Stations Operations and External interfaces GSEI Team and will coordinate activities with other relevant technical support teams at EUMETSAT. Duties Coordination of the operations of EUMETSATs operational ground stations and externally provided ground station services Implement arrangements and coordinate with the EUMETSAT teams providing expert engineering support for ground stations maintenance, based on Service Level Agreements Analysis of Ground Stations and external services anomalies, and coordination of their resolution Analysis of ground stations operations and performance, proposing evolutions where applicable Validation of Ground Stations systems upgrades and evolutions and management of small evolution projects Support the procurement of the ground stations and ground stations service contracts Support the development and transition into operations of ground station systems and services for future satellite systems Coordination of the productionvalidation of operational procedures and training of the operations teams Support the Ground Stations Operations Manager and replace them in case of absence.
