UK operators agree to end shock mobile phone bills

(Telecompaper) UK telecoms firms have signed up to a government plan to reduce the cost of mobile phone bills. Mobile operators Vodafone, Virgin Media, 3 UK and EE have agreed to limit liability bills on a handset that has been reported lost or stolen to GBP 50 from spring 2014. They have also agreed to stop unexpected mid-contract price rises by being transparent with customers at the start of contracts, and to eliminate roaming charges by 2016. BT, Sky and Talk Talk have also signed up to the agreement, leaving O2 as the only major mobile operator not to sign up.

Guardian: David Cameron should keep the levy on energy bills that pays for insulation for the poorest and most vulnerable households, a group of more than 140 local authorities, social landlords and academics has told the prime minister in a letter. The government is mulling scrapping the "energy companies obligation" (Eco) the only measure that requires utilities to help households reduce their energy bills, through insulation and new boilers.
