US apparel imports rebounded from China over the first quarter, whereas they more moderately rose from other nations. China's market share began therefore recovering thanks to the US market shift from cotton to cheaper man-made fiber apparel. This is reflected by our statistical review covering the first quarter of last four years and comparing US apparel imports from China with shipments from Rest of the World (RoW) for every category of products, in volume, value and unit value terms. Historical data with percentage change and market shares are available for download since 1st quarter 2012.

Polyester fiber and spun yarn prices have begun rebounding in April in Asia with the gross margins of spinners even increasing. Our monthly report compares polyester staple fiber and polyester spun yarn prices in China, India and Pakistan, in both local currency terms and US$ terms. Gross margins of spinners are also calculated on a monthly basis. Historical data back to 2007 are available for download.

Shipments from Bangladesh have also recovered with India and Sri Lanka similarly benefiting from the rise of the dollar and the consecutive jump of U.S. imports. Japan's apparel imports have sharply declined in 2014 in US$ terms, reflecting the fall of the yen against the dollar. China's share of the market is eventually declining, in line with a surge of shipments from a series of low-cost countries, and primarily from Vietnam.
