Responsibilities We are looking for an expert Java programmer with excellent competencies in related technologies, to join our ground software systems development group in Darmstadt, Germany. Your tasks will include the following Software design to implement features according to formal specifications Investigation of software technologies and methods for potential use, with prototyping when needed Implementation of software following modern, professional software engineering standards and methods Unit and component testing the implemented software Delivering the software to agreed timescales and quality Additional responsibilities may include User requirement analysis and software requirements specification Architectural Design Integration Testing Acceptance Testing This is a full time position, located at our office in Darmstadt, Germany, starting immediately. Qualifications Competencies You will have a university degree in Computer Science or other relevant subject, and demonstrable experience in the required competencies. The SCISYS Space Division delivers a range of projects to its customers, such as the European Space Agency, spanning large scale system developments used to operate satellites to small technology studies involving prototypes. We cover many software and IT aspects of the space and ground segments for spacecraft missions, including monitoring and control, planning, automation, operations data preparation, archives and big data analysis. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, capable and hardworking engineer to join our development team in Bristol as a software developer. This role will include responsibility for implementation of software components in a larger system using Java and customer support for current systems software. We are recruiting for a development phase of a new project that is delivering a mission critical system to operate a fleet of satellites. Initially this role will be under the guidance of the project managers, but over time we expect the successful candidate to grow and take on more responsibility within the Division. The role will generally involve all aspects of the standard software lifecycle Working as part of the team to implement new functionality Performing software builds and testing of the software Updating documentation e.g. user manuals, test documentation as needed Analysis and corrective maintenance of software anomalies Interfacing with the customer and users to discuss problems and changes as needed Travel to the customer site as required to assist with testing, provide training or support Essential skills The candidate must have a software engineering background with development experience in Java. Summary An experienced JAVA software engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESAC to support Gaia Science Operations. Objective An exciting opportunity to work at ESAC, supporting, maintaining and testing systems for the Gaia mission. Responsibilities Duties The engineer will be part of the Gaia SOC AGIS team in close coordination the scientific community to develop the Global Iterative Solution into an operational system. Tasks will include but are not limited to 1. Development and integration of scientific algorithms Coding scientific algorithms in Java following detailed mathematical descriptions Integrating these algorithms into the AGIS framework Testing and validating new implemented functionality unit integration tests using simulation data Optimize new code in terms of memory CPU usage All activities will be supported by SOC personnel and collaborating external scientists. 2. Maintenance of existing code modules Analyse and resolve known deficiencies and inadequacies Issues of existing AGIS software modules Verify and validate that issues have been resolved usually in the form of extending existing tests andor conduction of new largescale tests. 3. System verification and scientific validation Aid in the definition, conduction and analysis of largescale testing campaigns including a first assessment of the scientific quality of results. Documenting results of test campaigns in the form of validation test reports 4. Aid in the creation of the first astrometric solution L22m Assist SOC personnel in all activities needed to generate the first astrometric solution with real flight data, such as Populating the operational AGIS processing DB with IDT and all needed auxiliary data Starting the AGIS run Monitoring the execution of the run from a technical and scientific viewpoint In case of problems, diagnose their cause and implement rectifying actions All activities will be supported by SOC personnel and collaborating external scientists. 5. Other Activities In addition to AGIS the Gaia SOC is responsible for operating and maintaining a number of other key systems like the Initial Data Treatment IDT or the central Gaia Tools Java Library. The engineer may be asked to support maintaining these systems in phases of manpower shortage. Qualifications Experience The service to be provided requires that the personnel should possess a university background in a scientific or technical subject and relevant professional experience of at least 5 years in software development.
