FAA proposes civil penalty against Sun Country Airlines.

FAA proposes $114,975 civil penalty against MN Airlines, LLC, doing business as Sun Country Airlines, for allegedly violating federal drug and alcohol testing regulations. FAA alleges that Sun Country failed to conduct pre-employment drug tests and receive verified negative results before hiring or transferring 1 mechanic and 3 flight attendants into safety-sensitive positions. FAA also alleges airline failed to include 1 pilot and 7 aviation screeners in random drug and alcohol testing pool.

EPA Adds 5 Sites to Superfund NPL and proposes 7 more.

U.S. EPA is adding 5 hazardous waste sites to Superfund National Priorities List (NPL): Estech General Chemical Company (Calumet City, IL); Colonial Creosote (Bogalusa, LA); BJAT LLC (Franklin, MA); Main Street Ground Water Plume (Burnet, TX); and Grain Handling Facility at Freeman (Freeman, WA). In separate action, EPA proposes to add 7 sites to NPL in Atlantic, IA; Fairmont City, IL; Indianapolis, IN.; Jennings, LA; Norfolk, NE; Vineland, NJ; and Roswell, NM.

TransAlta proposes price-fixing case settlement

TransAlta Corporation is offering to pay a $56 million settlement after Alberta's regulator found it deliberately timed outages at power plants at peak times to drive up electricity prices. TransAlta said the proposal includes the repayment of money it made by the activity, legal costs and an administrative penalty.

EPA Proposes Protections for hazardous waste shipments.

Enhancements proposed by U.S. EPA regarding oversight of hazardous waste shipments will help ensure safe management of imports and exports. This rule proposes consolidation of regulations; one set of protective requirements will apply to transboundary movements of hazardous waste. Also, proposal makes electronic reporting to EPA mandatory and requires linking consent to export with exporter declaration submitted to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
