Our Space Client based in Harwell develops novel deployable spacecraft structures that are lighter, less complex and lower cost than those in current commercial demand. Their vision is to become a recognised, leading supplier of highly competitive deployable structures for the global satellite industry. By working with leading academic commercial collaborators, they are developing genuinely innovative scalable boom, panel and antenna solutions for the worlds leading satellite builders. Based at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus the UKs Space Cluster they enjoy access to the worldclass facilities expertise of RAL Space, together with support from the Science and Technology Facilities Council STFC, Innovate UK and the Satellite Applications Catapult. The role will start in early 2018 and both permanent and contract at least 6mo 1 year are available. Main duties Design of mechanisms and deployable structuresdevices from concept stage through to detailed design to enable analysis and manufacture Negotiate technical issuesrequirementsdesign solutions with customers Trade off technical solution with other disciplines Creation of piece part drawings from 3D models to enable manufacture of components Write documentation for Design definition, Manufacturing, Assembly and Integration and detailed procedures through interaction with MAIT teams Manage configuration of all designs control of BOM Support technical reviews with customers Provide technical support to procurement, manufacture and assembly activities Support business development team in preparing technical proposals for customers Essential Skills and Experience Strong Bachelors or Masters degreelevel in mechanical engineering related subject or HNC minimum with strong relevant experience Innovative thinking the ability to be given technical requirements and to create robust design solutions using own initiative and the ability to critique own ideas Very good understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials and their practical implementation, correct use of tolerances, Engineering drawing standards and manufacturing techniques High level of experience using CAD software packages for mechanical design preferably SolidWorks is essential. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software Handson practical experience preferably apprentice trained in mechanical engineering field would be a distinct advantage Demonstrate a common sensepragmatic and logical approach to problem solving ability to find simple solutions to complex problems Experience of working within a regulated industry would be an advantage Aerospace, Nuclear, Medical Familiarity with ECSS would be an advantage The ability to quickly understand new technical concepts is essential Personal Due to the sensitive nature of projects applicants must be eligible to gain SC clearance normally have been a UK resident for a minimum of 5 years, exceptions will be reviewed on individual merit Good interpersonal skills Excellent technical English writtenverbal communication and presentation skills Selfmotivated to meet objectives Ability to work both alone and in teams as required by the individual task Ability to work within defined timescales to meet programme milestones Ability to work on several projects at any one time Driven by technical challenges, problem solving and practical implementation of new ideas Willingness to learn and share knowledge with other members of the team Ability to gain SC clearance. We are currently looking for a Harness Design Engineer to support our customer in Germany. Harness Design Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As Harness Design Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities Compiling and documentation of harness designs Creation of tradeoffs for justification of harness design in order to ensure best solution cost, time, risk, requirements Coordination of harness design with other disciplines Entering plugs, cable types and connection details into harness database e.g. Aucotec Engineering Base Planning and conduction of typical harness design analyses Voltage, Drop, Worst Case, Derating Creation of harness production documentation and integration procedures Management of material procurement Definition and procurement of jigs and tools for harness assembly and integration Support of nonconformances of design and mitigation actions Definition, maintenance and improvement of relevant processes and planning of investments for harness design and engineering Further development of strategic competences and technologies Support of proposals of OHB System AG regarding harness activities through providing of technical descriptions, identification of relevant activities and cost and time estimations Participation of reviews. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in Electronics, Aerospace Engineering or similar domain Several years of experiences in the area of harness engineering in space business Experiences in space related processes and knowledge of relevant quality standards ECSS or MIL Experiences in usage of harness databases e.g. Aucotec Engineering Base Good command of MS Office tools for scheduling High load capability, team minded and strong communication skills Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
