Drugmaker Actavis plans a name change once it finishes its acquisition of Botox-maker Allergan in a $66 billion deal that the company announced last fall. Actavis said Wednesday that it will adopt the Allergan corporate name after securing Actavis shareholders' approval for the switch at its annual meeting later this year.

February 13, 2014 - Actavis plc and TPG, the global private investment firm, today announced that they have entered into definitive agreements, under which Actavis will divest to TPG the business currently known as Aptalis Pharmaceutical Technologies - a pharmaceutical outsourcing and R&D business within Actavis' subsidiary Aptalis operating in the United States, Canada and Europe . No other Aptalis businesses or products are included in the transaction.

Generic drugmaker Actavis Plc is planning to cut employees and expand in China, a Bloomberg report said citing an interview by Chief Executive Officer Brent Saunders on Bloomberg Television. Earlier in November, Botox maker Allergan Inc accepted a $66 billion takeover bid from Actavis, ending a seven-month hostile pursuit by activist investor William Ackman and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. Brent Saunders had said in the interview that there are overlaps in corporate functions, including human relations and finance, the report noted.

Actavis, which is buying Botox-maker Allergan for $66 billion in one of the biggest acquisitions announced so far this year, plans to stay committed to developing new products. CEO Brent Saunders said Monday that the combined company will have more than two dozen products in late-stage clinical testing, which is usually the last and most expensive development phase, and it will work to support research.
