The Mission Our customer, ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, requires Simulations Officers to prepare and execute spacecraft operations simulations campaigns for launch preparations, as part of the training program for spacecraft flight control teams. A deputy Simulations Officer is sought to support the launch preparations for the SWARM mission, a complex mission involving 3 spacecraft designed to measure the Earths magnetic signals. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Spacecraft Simulations Officer Deputy to be located at the customer site at ESOC in Darmstadt. The Simulations Officers is responsible for developing the training concept and the associated Simulation Plan to train the Mission Control Team, in order to prepare them for the launch or other critical phases of a mission. Typical tasks responsibilities Planning and developing failure cases of increasing difficulty to be introduced into the simulations, in order to train the Mission Control Team in nonnominal operations and the correct application of mission rules Operational training of other staff, including Ground Operations Managers and operators, and with general training and simulation activities at ESOC Support of the Prime Simulations Officer in delivering training to the Mission Control Team Simulator breakpoint preparation Testing of contingencies Writing briefing and debriefing messages Running simulations. For this position the candidate will be initially allocated as Deputy Simulations Officer for the SWARM mission, and later moving on to cover other simulations campaigns, for example as a prime simulation officer on Galileo or Sentinels. The start date for this position is as soon as possible. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Essential skills are Good spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level Experience in working in an operational environment Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Be fluent in English, both in speech and writing Selfstarter, able to work independently with little or no supervision Proactive and confident personality with good persuasive skills Teamplayer, able to interface with technical and management personnel Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several tasks in parallel Familiarity with operational training Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000 Familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript. Desirable skills are Security Clearance in view of later projects Experience in operational training Familiarity with the ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS Knowledge of operations Experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns Experience in instructional design methodologies Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects. The successful candidate will have Good spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level, experience in working in an operational environment, the ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems, be familiar with operational training and operational simulators ideally SimSat, familiarity with satellite control systems ideally SCOS2000 and familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g C, Java, JavaScript. All applicants must be a proactive selfstarter with the ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Good English communication skills, both verbal and written are essential along with a degree in Engineering or Physics. Experience in operational training and instructional design methodologies along with experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns is desirable but not essential.
