ELFA Monthly Leasing and Finance Index indicated 23% rise in business volume for April year-over-year and 10% rise over March. Index also showed receivables over 30 days were unchanged from previous 2 months, while companies reported submitting 50% more credit transactions than previous month. Also, ELFI's Monthly Confidence Index increased to 56.7 in May. Both indices show optimism on direction of U.S. economy, according to ELFA President and CEO William G. Sutton. The U.S. economy remains in a state of slow growth, according to the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) monthly Chemical Activity Barometer (CAB) released today. The economic indicator, shown to lead U.S. business cycles by an average of eight months, increased 0.2 percent over March on a three-month moving average basis.

According to ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index, overall new business volume for March was $6.8 billion, flat compared to volume in March 2012. Month-over-month, new business volume was up 45% from February, and year to date, cumulative new business volume was up 3% compared to 2012. Receivables over 30 days were unchanged in March from previous month at 2.0%, and were down from 2.8% in same period in 2012. According to ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index, overall new business volume for December was 11.5 billion, up 6% from $10.8 billion in same period in 2011. In typical end-of-year spike, volume was up 80% from previous month’s volume of $6.4 billion.
