Airtel sells 3.6% stake in Infratel tower unit for INR 26 bln

(Telecompaper) Indian operator Bharti Airtel has divested a 3.6 percent stake in its towers arm Bharti Infratel for INR 26 billion. Bharti Airtel sold 67.53 million shares in its subsidiary Bharti Infratel at a price of INR 380.6 per share, representing a discount of around 4 percent to the previous day's closing price. Following this transaction, Bharti Airtel owns a 58 percent stake in Bharti Infratel.
India starts spectrum tender, bids top INR 535 bln

(Telecompaper) India has launched its largest ever spectrum tender. The 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands, for provision of 4G services, saw the highest interest after five rounds of bidding on 1 October, ET reports, citing data released by India's Department of Telecom (DoT). Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio Infocomm have placed bids worth a total INR 535.3 billion. The 700 MHz band failed to attract bidders in the first day of auction.

Airtel to buy Videocon spectrum in 6 circles for INR 44 bln

(Telecompaper) Indian operator Bharti Airtel has agreed to acquire Videocon Telecom's spectrum in six circles for INR 44.28 billion. Airtel will acquire rights to use 2 x 5 MHz spectrum in the 1800 MHz frequency band. The spectrum deal includes Videocon's spectrum in Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, UP (East), UP (West) and Gujarat. The spectrum license expires in December 2032.

Airtel to invest INR 600 bln in 3-year network expansion

(Telecompaper) Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel announced plans to invest around INR 600 billion in its network expansion over the next three years. Under its 'Project leap', Airtel will deploy over 70,000 base stations in the current fiscal, and 160,000 base stations in the next three years. It will also invest in improved backhaul and fixed broadband services in order to meet growing demand for internet access from consumers and businesses.
