Facebook introduces cross-app messaging for Instagram and Messenger

(Telecompaper) Facebook announced a new step in integrating its apps with the launch of Messenger features in Instagram and the abilitu for users to communicate across the two apps through chat and video calls. Instagram users will be able to decide whether they want to update their app to the new Messenger experience or continue with the current direct messaging options. Messenger users can opt in to share messages with Instagram contacts.

Facebook introduces Messenger Rooms for video calling

(Telecompaper) Facebook announced a new feature for video calls called Messenger Rooms. This allows users to launch a call from Messenger or Facebook and invite up to 50 people to join for an unlimited time, even those without a Facebook account. Soon users will be able to create rooms from its other properties WhatsApp, Instagram and Portal, too.

Facebook announces redesign, new Messenger, Portal features at F8

(Telecompaper) Facebook announced a number of changes to its social network and apps at the first day of its F8 developers conference, in line with its recently announced increased focus on messaging and privacy. Facebook itself will be redesigned to take a greater focus on social aspects like groups over the news feed, while Messenger is getting a new, lighter app as well as a desktop version. While no major hardware was announced, Facebook did announce the start of pre-orders for the Oculus Quest and Rift S and plans for an enterprise VR offering.

Facebook to integrate WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger

(Telecompaper) Facebook is planning to integrate its three messaging services, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger, the New York Times reports. The services will continue to operate as stand-alone apps, but their underlying technical infrastructure will be unified, said four people involved in the effort. The three platforms bring together more than 2.6 billion users, who will be able to communicate across the messengers after the integration.
