Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has announced that it has signed deal with BT Sport to help launch three TV channels and an interactive red button service in the UK. One of the channels, BT Sport UHD will be the first Ultra HD channel to launch in the UK.

KPN to start producing own TV content

(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN is entering the content market with agreements to make TV productions with Endemol Shine Nederland, Mojo Concerts, ADE and the Eredivisie football league. The content will be offered free to its customers over the IPTV service and the upcoming OTT service KPN Play. The first production will be the 10-episode series Brussel, written by Leon de Winter and produced by Endemol Shine Nederland. It will broadcast in the second half of 2016, and all ten of the 50-minute episodes will be offered at once for customers to view. KPN also plans music and sports productions, such as the partnership with Mojo to offer concerts and behind-the-scenes footage from the Amsterdam Dance Event and documentaries about great and small sports. This will include expanding the KPN Goal Alert service offered with the Eredivisie, with pre- and post-match overviews.

Industry research from Parks Associates finds global OTT video service subscription revenues will increase from nearly $9 billion in 2014 to over $19 billion in 2019. Currently, 57% of U.S. broadband households subscribe to an OTT video service.
